Hello there! I can’t quite believe that it’s 18 months since I last wrote a blog. I know I’ve been active on social media here and there, but really sitting down and writing – well, it’s been a while.   Sometimes things happen in life that takes us down a different path. It can be daunting, frustrating, exciting and surprising – all at once. You know what I’m talking about, you’ll have been there!     It’s been a rollercoaster! I read a short, but fairly scathing, article on Nutritionists in The Guardian today. I’ll be honest, it felt like a personal attack but I could also appreciate some of the concerns raised – for those os us operating credibly after years of training, we also have some of the same frustrations. The article covered concerns that the industry is promoting fad diets that cost a fortune and don’t deliver results, whilst also claiming that the industry isn’t regulated. Kale is a really nutritious leafy green vegetable that is really easy to grow, and also fairly inexpensive to buy in the shops. It’s part of the cruciferous family of vegetables and is packed full of nutrients, with a few examples being: Vitamin K – not always well known, but critical […]

Detoxification is such a big topic and over the last few weeks I’ve shared what toxins are, how the body is equipped to deal with them and how our diet and lifestyle choices can have an impact. I hope you’ve found it useful. “Do I need to detox?” Many people ask me whether I think they need to have a “detox” and whether there really are any real benefits to it. I believe the key to success with detoxification is not to focus on having a “detox” just for a couple of weeks a year, but adopting the principles for […]

Last week I shared some hints and tips on how food can help the body with detoxification, but we can also make lifestyle choices that help reduce toxin exposure in the first place – and they don’t have to be complicated! Here’s a few examples.   Reduce or stop smoking / reduce exposure to passive smoke – an obvious culprit containing thousands of toxic chemicals, at least 40 of which are known to contribute to cancer. Choose your household products carefully – air fresheners, cleaning products, detergents can all contain toxins which our bodies then have to deal with. […]
